This school year I have the pleasure to be in residence at Rossi School in Vineland NJ. I am working with science, social studies, and language arts teachers in an arts integration residency that will result in a large mosaic mural. The theme is “What will you leave behind.”? The central image of the mosaic will be a large tree with leaves that contain messages from last years graduating class along with this years graduating class. Students in language arts created word clouds with positive messages. In science, we created tiles that reflect the surrounding landscape/ecosystem. Social studies students learned about the history of the art form. Its a big wall. Here is what we have so far.

"I Carry" Glass Mosaic at Broad St School Bridgeton NJ.
Here are some process photos from the "I Carry" glass mosaic. Ms. Olive Doss again did an excellent job of documenting the entire process from inception to completion of the mosaic. Eighth Grade students created the images from a poem they wrote collaboratively entitled "I Carry". The poem documents the immigration/migration stories of the students .

Veterans Mosaic
This past fall I had the opportunity to work with mosaic artist Kathy Casper to create a mosaic for the Veterans Memorial on route 40 in Elmer NJ. We had to design a mosaic that would be incorporated onto an existing structure and include insignias from all of the branches of the armed forces. We are very excited to have this opportunity to have work in such a public realm. Route 40 is a heavily traveled road, a main artery to the Jersey Shore. We cannot wait to see it installed before the summer season arrives! Thank you to Appel Farm Music and Arts for providing a great studio in which to work.

" I Carry" Glass Mosaic at Broad St School Bridgeton NJ
I have the honor of working again on an A.I.E residency at Broad St School in Bridgeton NJ. This year, students in grade 8 are creating a glass mosaic that documents their migration/immigration stories. I worked with teaching artist/poet Jacob Winterstein who helped the students to write a poem entitled "I Carry". Jacob created a group poem from the individual poems. Students are creating stained glass mosaic "windows" that illustrate lines from the group poem.
