Making Progress with a little help from my friends

nnnnnnnnnnnnnn

Slowly progress is being made. My friend and fellow Philadelphia College of Art alum Ellen Pantano spent the day helping me to glue tiles. I hope to begin grouting next week. I am still short of tile and need to keep making those tiles!

More photo's of residency day 21

Michele Russo from Young Audiences visited on the beautiful sunny day we installed the frame for the labyrinth. She took these photo's of Warren Bradway and I, with some students, who are assisting with the construction and tiling. The labyrinth deck is made of nine pieces of 4X4 foot exterior plywood and hardi backer board. Each piece was separately screwed into the frame. Students are tiling over the seams so that the finished piece will appear to be one continous surface.

Friends Mural

llllllll

I finally finished the Friends Mural. It's attached to the wall in front of the Friends School of Mullica Hill. It's made of ceramic tile letters on a stained glass background. This is my first outside mural. Thanks to Warren Bradway for his excellent engineering services.

The mural is visible from High Street in Mullica Hill.

Students work on painting the black border tiles. We try to paint the glaze as even and neatly as possible.

We continued gluing the tile to the labyrinth. The weather is not very cooperative. It has been very rainy and cool. We need a few sunny days to complete the gluing and then the grouting will begin!

Day 20: The Frame Is Built

m mm

Today visiting artist/building engineer Warren Bradway came and made the frame for the labyrinth. Happy to say that the frame fit perfectly in the designated space. We also had artist/intern Ellen Tiberino and Michele Russo from Young Audiences help with the gluing. We accomplished a great deal but still much is left to do!

Today we started gluing tile to one of the boards. It is still to cold to work outside, so I brought one of the panels in so we could start to glue. Messy fun!

We move outside

nnnn

Today we moved outside to lay out the labyrinth. We also practiced the labyrinth diagram with chalk on the blacktop. We still have much work to do and are hoping for good weather so we can work outside for the next couple of weeks.
