Summer Work 2010

This is the 1st summer in a few years that I have not taught. I have taken the extra time to do some new work. These photo's are form a Raku and pit fire conducted on my property on July 31st. I was so thankful for finally a break in this summers heat. Joe Brenman , Ellen Tiberino and I had a great day.

I tried a new technique called Obvara. The pot is taken out of the kiln and plunged into a yeast solution. Its pretty radical and my bowl broke a little bit. Next time I will be sure to use a grogged clay body.

New work

I have been working with the paper pulp and am excited with the results. The process is casting paper pulp into clay molds. I love that I can reuse the molds to create many possibilities with the cast. These are some of the first ones. They are painted with watercolor. I am calling the series"Nature and Geometry"

Friends Village day 9

We have been working on paper pots for a few weeks. I am amazed at how different each pot turned out! Everyone really enjoyed the process.I will really miss working with my students. I will definitely keep contact with all the wonderful people at Friends Village.

Friends Village Residency

I am working with a group of elders at Friends Village in Woodstown NJ. So far we have done watercolor paintings, and linoleum prints. Everyone has their own way of working and it is exciting to see them so engaged in their work. Their completed work is beautiful!

Summer

I had the opportunity to take a papermaking class with a great paper maker Winnie Radolan at her beautiful South Jersey studio Tidewater. We worked on creating paper pots. The transition from working in clay to paper was both intuitive and sensual. I hope to take the experience to the Appel Farm residency I am currently working on at Friends Village in Woodstown NJ. The next several weeks I will be working with a wonderful group of elders. I hope to post some photos soon.

I finally finished it! The rain delays held off for a few days and between the raindrops I was able to finish grouting and photographing. I spent my 51st birthday working alone on the labyrinth, loving every quiet moment. I cherished the walk I took through the circuit, looking at each and every beautiful hand-painted stepping stone tile. I am happy to be finished, but will miss all the wonderful students and staff who worked with me, braving the elements and the bugs, to bring this labyrinth to being.
